My bad experience with J. Foster Mitchell Winery.

Welcome to AlliJoe's list of  Winery Events & Reviews

What you've been missing at Findleton Estate Winery

Here you will find out what winery events are going on in the Sierra Foothills and reviews of some really good wineries you can visit.

Allison and I started wine tasting in the Shenandoah Valley & Sierra Foothills (El Dorado & Amador county) area wineries. After a couple years of tasting some great wines and meeting some wonderful winemakers, we decided to share our experience of the wineries we have visited and fell in love with. Loving the taste of wine and visiting some of the most beautiful wineries in Shenandoah Valley and the Sierra Foothills (Northern California), we decided to share these amazing wineries with you and give them a small review. Hopefully our website will help you during your next visit to the Shenandoah Valley & Sierra Foothills wine country.

We write personal reviews of our favorite wineries and have links to some really good ones as well. You will not find a full page of topics that have nothing to do with the actual experience you can expect at a winery like other pages or Blogs. We want you to be able to read a straight to the point review and have your own wonderful experience. We will not discuss wineries or wines we do not like, because if it's in a bottle someone must have liked it...

Remember, everyone has a different wine palate. Just because we like a wine, does not mean that you will. When you visit a winery and taste a $50.00 bottle of wine that has won a double gold, you may or may not like it. But yet you taste a $17.00 bottle and found it was great!! Price, Points & Gold metals do not mean you will like it. Also try not to visit too many wineries in one day. The more you drink, the better they taste.

Buying wines from a winery

After tasting the wines at a winery, Allison and I discuss what wines we liked the best. If we liked any of their wines, we buy at least one bottle to show our appreciation and to help fund the free wine they are pouring that day.
Almost all of the wineries in Northern California - Shenandoah Valley & Sierra Foothills. Amador, Plymouth, El Dorado county, Fair Play & Somerset, do not charge to taste their wines. Please help keep it this way by buying at least one bottle or more if you liked some of their wines.
Check out our winery reviews and feel free to visit their websites from our
review page.

6 - Tips of wine tasting to enhance your wine tasting experience

1. Swirl:
Observe, color, legs body & structure.

2. Smell, Swirl, Smell again:
Your sense of smell can detect thousands of aromas and is far more informative than your sense of taste...

Common aromas in red wine may be cherries, strawberries, plums, raspberries, blueberries, pepper, spice, mint, tobacco, caramel, vanilla, chocolate.

Common aromas in  white wine may be apples, pineapple, melons, citrus, lemon,
vanilla, oak & various herbs.

3. Sip:
Put your nose in the glass.. smell... then sip... swoosh and breathe in through your mouth.
After swallowing the wine breath in through your mouth and exhale through your nose to put a finish on the wine.
Don't judge the 1st taste which can be tart or bitter due to acidity and tannins in the wine...

4. Visit only three to four wineries a day:
Don't visit too many wineries in one day, the more you visit the better they taste. After drinking too much wine, your palate is gone! You will find yourself buying wine you don't like or not buying the wine you would normally like.

5. The cost of tasting:
Wineries pour thousands of dollars of free wine a year in their tasting room. Providing you liked the wines you just tasted, help fund the wine that is being poured by buying at least one bottle of wine.

6. Don't drink and drive!

We just found an amazing little cheese shop!!

Ok... We only do winery reviews but when we found this little cheese shop, we had to talk about it!!

Allison and I were visiting Serafina's 2nd tasting room they just opened in historic Sutter Creek when we overheard some other wine tasters talking about "the best cheese they have ever tasted just down the street".  So we decided to give it a try.

The Sutter Creek Cheese Shoppe is located on main street in historic Sutter Creek California. Read our Blog and check out their list of 60+ cheeses.
