Why I will never buy wine from

Charles B Mitchell Vineyards or J. Foster
Mitchell Winery...

What you are about to read is my personal experience with J. Foster Mitchell Winery and the charges on my credit card by Charles B Mitchell vineyards.

Many of you know that Charles B Mitchell Vineyards, Winery by the Creek & J. Foster
Mitchell Winery are all owned or partly owned by the same person. If you didn’t, well
you do now…

On 9/1/2011 I was illegally charged $53.62 by Charles B Mitchell Vineyards.
I am not a member at this winery…

On 9/2/2011 “The next day” I received this email from “J. Foster Mitchell Winery”.
I am not a member of this winery either…

I was a member of the Bantam Cellar wine club and had cancelled my membership over 6-
months ago. So now I am wondering why they just charged my credit card without my
permission. Hmmm?

Then I thought, well maybe it was a mistake and they thought I was still a member of
Bantam. No, that can’t be… Because if I was a current Bantam member and Bantam sold
to another winery then I would think the new owners would send a greeting email first.

You know, indicating that they had bought Bantam Cellars and asking if the previous
members would like to continue their membership with them “J. Foster Mitchell”.

Instead they charged my credit card without my permission then emailed me the
following day telling me what I bought. Really??

I emailed them asking for a refund and in their reply they said they will refund the card
and to come buy and try their wines. How arrogant!! "I will cancel your membership" What membership? You mean the one you made up?

At this point I’m thinking “You arrogant bastards” how do you commit credit card fraud,
then invite me to try your wines like it was no big deal?

So, a few days later I receive an email from Karly Wines (Bantam/Karly wines are the
same family) apologizing for what had happened.

I never called Karly or Bantam? How did they know what had happened? I can only speculate that I am not the only one that this had happened to and that is why they sent
an email with a special offer for my trouble.

I thought it was very nice of them to offer an apology for something they had no part of.
I wasn’t surprised because they treat their customers like family.

Oh but it’s not over yet…

A few days later I get another email from Karly Wines, telling me J. Foster Mitchell Winery / Charles B Mitchell Vineyards  complained about the email they sent, claiming that it was unethical to offer me a gift for my inconvenience.  What?  Are you kidding me?

(No Cobb Family, you were correct. They did charge me before they notified me)

Charles B Mitchell Vineyards Charged my credit card without my permission (this is
illegal) and they have the nerve to say the email from Karly is unethical? WOW!!

To this day I have never got an email from Charles B Mitchell apologizing for charging
my credit card without my permission.

So, was it unethical for Karly wines to send an email apologizing & offering discounts
because of what I felt to be shady practices by the new winery?

Or is it unethical to go through the old member list of a winery that is no longer in
business and charge the credit cards in hopes no one will care? I think we all know the
answer to that…

Karly Wines,

I would be happy to renew our membership at the normal club price. Sometimes it's not about the money...

Charles B Mitchell Vineyards / J. Foster Mitchell Winery,

There are plenty of other wineries in the Sierra Foot Hills that weren’t sick the day they
taught ethics. You should be ashamed of yourself...

Here is another email I received from a person that did not want to be named.

All emails and images were sent to my email and are therefore the property of allijoeswinelist.com. All statements by me are true and are FACTS. This is my experience only and in no way am I insinuating that this has happened to others.
